Cotto ignores being underdog vs Mayweather The WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (32-2, 30KOs) ignores being the underdog in his upcoming match against the undefeated WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs). In latest betting odds in Las Vegas, appearing in the 7-1 favorite for Floyd Mayweather to beat Miguel Cotto. According to Cotto, he don’t pay much attention on the news but he said his focus is on the biggest fight in his boxing career. “Actually I don’t pay too much attention to that,” Cotto said. “I get paid for bringing to people what they want to see: good show, real fight; that’s what I am going to prepare for.” Addition of 154-pound champion, he learned much in recent especially against the kina against Antonio Margarito in 2008 and Manny Pacquiao. ”When he defeated me in 2008 I learned a lot. After he beat me in 2008, right after the fight I understood he took from me a lot of things, like my confidence and good things I had before in my career. As soon as we started training two weeks ago I understood those things came back to me.” Cotto was not also convinced that his fight with Mayweatgher was a mismatch. According to Cotto, if they talk about Mayweather being fast, Cotto just ignores it and he just focus on his training. Cotto cited an example when he successfully won against Shane Mosley back in 2007 which many analysts said he will lose the fight, but the opposite happened. Cotto defeated Shane Mosley that night. The Puerto Rican boxing champion said, he made the same strategy used to fight Mosley for the May 5 fight with Mayweather. Cotto plan to pressure Mayweather to ensure his victory. “When I think of quickness and faster fighters we can go back to 2007 when I fought Shane Mosley,” Cotto said. “People said the same; they said his strength is quickness, he is faster. At the end of the day when we fought I beat him at his own game. I plan to do the same with Mayweather. I plan to apply pressure and apply power. It is going to work for me too.” The Mayweather vs Cotto fight will be on May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. This is for Cotto’s WBA Junior Middleweight belt (154 pound) and WBC Diamond title that according to World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman, the Diamond title is worth $50,000.
