Some reasons why Facebook so often with the news and why can it generate so much passion; after all, isn't it simply a web page? I guess the biggest response to this subject is 'no, it is not merely a website'. It is a spot, a home, an expression of speech, a space to connect and possibility to share. As a result, supporters of Facebook guard their to its use, defending it as ardently for the reason that any heavily fortified 'Castle'. However, with equal valour, others (dwelling in different Castles) seek to dismantle it, or at the minimum, impose restrictions on her use. I realise the castle analogy might appear unusual given Facebook's objectives of open communication. However I use them here to illustrate precisely how attitudinal walls have generated a grand divide between those who understand how to use Facebook, those who think they know how to use Facebook and those who don't realize how to use Facebook. [http://129.187.108.94/wiki/index.php?title=RenaeFranhd21 My Facebook] It has been indicated that Facebook (and various other forms of social media) may well be useful in emergency and disaster situations mainly because offers the opportunity for 'real-time' updates which have been not restricted by regular media regulations. However, even as I type this I often hear the collective outcry of those who suggest social media could possibly have devastating consequences in these types of same situations, especially when 'untrained amateurs' and also 'rubber necking' glory searchers offer false or mistaken information. Of course there can also be the danger of exposure to tragic circumstances involving relatives before 'official notification' is actually given. Worse, are the bullies who use Facebook as a way of torture and more painful still, are the heartless (faceless) people who deface tribute pages. These arguments are commonly raised (particularly by way of parents, politicians and school administrators who will not use or understand, Facebook), as evidence that Facebook's use should be restricted or even blacklisted. But, isn't this a scenario of blaming the resource, when really, it is the wielder in the tool? After all, a simple fork (designed being an eating utensil) could become a toy in the hand of your child in a sandpit, or a weapon during the hand of an attacker. It is with this in the mind that I offer a couple of suggestions, one to parents, politicians and school site; and the other on the team who administer Facebook or myspace.
